Prof Hübel studied medicine from 1987 to 1994 in Cologne and studied for his doctoral thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Neurological Research in Cologne, Germany from 1992 - 1993. In 1995 he began his residency training at the Medical Clinic I, University of Cologne. From 2000 to 2001, Prof. Hübel was the recipient of a grant from the German Cancer Aid at the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, USA. In 2002, he earned recognition as a specialist in internal medicine, and in 2004 was recognised as a board-certified in Hematology and Oncology. He is a professor of haematology and consultant at the University Hospital of Cologne and head of the department of haematology and oncology at the Weyertal Hospital in Cologne.
In the Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Program of the University of Cologne, Prof. Hübel acts as an investigator in many national and international trials. Especially, he has focused on the improvement of the outcome of patients with indolent lymphomas and patients with HIV-associated lymphomas.
Dr Sabattini is the Chief of the Haematopathology Unit at Bologna University Hospital. She has held a stable position as a pathologist and hematopathologist at Bologna University Hospital for more than 25 years and has been leading the Unit since 2015. The Unit is a referral centre in Italy and receives more than half of the cases come from outside hospitals and patients. Lymphomas/Lymphoproliferative disorders and Philadelphia negative myeloproliferative neoplasms are the main areas of interest and research. She is a co-founder of the Italian Haematopathology Group of the Italian Society of Pathologic Anatomy and Cytology and is a member of its Executive Committee for the Haematopathology Specialty. She has been been an active member of the European Association for Hematopathology and European Bone Marrow Working group since 1990 for which she contributed to the organization of international meetings and workshops such as those held in Lisbon, Istanbul, Milan, Munich, Dubrovnic. Dr Sabattini has authored/ co-authored 227 peer-review paper.
