Last May 2018 the European Commission adopted a legislative proposal for a new European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) Programme for the period 2021-2027 aiming to become the financial instrument for the implementation of Health Policies while facilitating synergies with other EU instruments financing health-related projects. The ESF+ Programme merges existing funds and programmes including:
ESF+ Programme specifically includes € 413 million for the Health strand. In addition, other EU financial instruments as the European Regional Development Fund, Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, InvestEU Fund or Connecting Europe Facility will also tackle public health priorities.
European Reference Networks will be funded from the ESF+, Horizon Europe (the research and innovation programme that will succeed Horizon 2020) and Digital Europe.
