2023-02-28
The project

Actions initiated will be continued through the ERN-EuroBloodNet grants aiming to implement the CPMS customization and consolidate the ERN-EuroBloodNet eLearning platform

European Reference Networks (ERNs) are virtual networks involving healthcare providers across Europe aiming to tackle complex or rare diseases and conditions that require highly specialised treatment and concentrated knowledge and resources. The European Commission together with ERNs set up the eHealth Digital Service Infrastructure for ERNs and developed the Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS) as the platform conceived for the secure sharing of clinical data for interprofessional consultation of complex cases.

ERN-EuroBloodNet encompasses more than 450 Rare Hematological Diseases (RHD) which are very heterogeneous in their nature and clinical course e.g. oncological vs non-oncological, acute vs chronic or hereditary vs acquired. Accordingly, customization of CPMS is essential to ensure the efficient use of the platform addressing the RHD needs.

In this context, the call CEF TELECOM CALL FOR PROPOSALS 2020 eHealth (CEF-TC-2020-2) was granted for the project "Connecting EuroBloodNet III" in order not only to add blocks on the bedrocks already built in terms of promoting the virtual sharing of expertise by exploiting innovations in health technologies, as the CPMS, but also expand the actions addressed to the pooling of knowledge for lowering inequalities in knowledge accessibility throughout Europe.

"Connecting EuroBloodNet III" main objectives were to promote the wide implementation of efficient use of the CPMS, facilitate the ERN-EuroBloodNet Members' systematic collection of monitoring indicators, increase the searchability of ERN-EuroBloodNet Members and health professionals' expertise, and ensure the pooling and sharing of knowledge based on the upgrade and expansion of the ERN-EuroBloodNet educational environment launched in the previous action.

The project "Connecting EuroBloodNet III" ended successfully on the 28th of February 2023 allowing the following key results
