DrepaComunidade presenting at the International Conference on Art and Health
The work presented explores the potential of utilizing art and creativity as therapeutic interventions to empower SCD patients and effectively manage their pain.
Last 10th of November has been held the International Conference on Art and Health organized by the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) of Lisbon, Portugal. This international meeting aims to give visibility and analyze the projects that combine art and medicine.

During the last 2023 edition, one of the projects carried on by DrepaComunidade was selected to be presented at the conference. DrepaComunidade is a project of the Portuguese Association of Hemoglobinopathies (APPDH) aiming to promote the common sharing of knowledge and information between patients, relatives, carers, and healthcare workers around the disease in Portuguese-speaking countries.
Celeste Bento, the ERN-EuroBloodNet expert from the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra, EPE (Portugal), is a Member of the DrepaComunidade and one of the authors of the elected work.
The project “Sickle Cell Disorder: Empowering Patients and Managing Pain Through Art and Creativity” includes the testimonies of four SCD patients. This work, acknowledged by the ERN-EuroBloodNet, explores the potential of utilizing art and creativity as therapeutic interventions to empower SCD patients and effectively manage their pain.
