Description:
Medical Genetics Unit offers genetic counseling and genetic tests for patients with rare tumors and their families. Genetic counselling provides information and support to people who have, or may be at risk for, genetic disorders. During a consultation, a medical geneticist meets with an individual or family to discuss genetic risks or to diagnose, confirm, or rule out a genetic condition and to evaluate the possibility to perform a prenatal diagnosis. The clinical service is complemented by a wide range of research activities, which include genetic and experimental research in a dedicated laboratory as well as the coordination of national and international clinical research consortia. Medical Genetics Unit is certified through a National Assessment Program concerning specifically the ISO 9001:2008 certification released by ACCREDIA. Site visits are annually planned. It certifies that the Management System of the Unit has been audited and found to be in accordance with the requirements of the management system standard. Supplies services are Clinical Genetics, Genetics Biobank, Scientific research in Medical Genetics and Laboratory of Medical Genetics including Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, Forensic Genetics and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis. Furthermore, every year the Italian Society of Human Genetics (SIGU) certifies that the above organisation has been audited and found to be in accordance with SIGU Disciplinaries.
