New publication!

Study co-authored by María del Mar Mañú Pereira was published in an international peer-reviewed journal

ERN-EuroBloodNet highlights a new scientific publication on Sickle Cell Disease co-authored by Dr. María del Mar Mañú Pereira, Scientific Coordinator of the network, and Dr. Anna Collado Gimbert, expert of the network from Vall d’Hebrón University Hospital.

The article, recently published in a peer-reviewed international journal, contributes to advancing knowledge in the field of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), addressing key clinical and/or biological aspects relevant to patient care and research.

Since 2021, sickle cell disease (SCD) has been included in all 17 neonatal screening programmes in Spain. The carrier state for haemoglobin S (HbS) is also detected collaterally; although clinically benign, it appears to increase the risk of certain complications, with genetic counselling being the main reason for its recognition. The Red Cells Disorders Working Group of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (SEHOP) conducted this study to examine current practices in the management of its detection.
