Prof. Dr. Anna Savoia obtained her Biological Sciences Degree at the University of Bologna in 1987 and her Specialization Degree in Medical Genetics at the University of Verona in 1992. From 1990 to 1992 she was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Genetics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. From 1992 to 2001, she held the position of Group Leader at the Genetic Service of the Research Institute CSS Hospital, San Giovanni Rotondo, Foggia, Italy. From 2005 to 2022 she held the position of Associate Professor in Medical Genetics at the Department of Medicine, Surgery, and Health Sciences of the University of Trieste, Italy.

Since 2022 she has held the position of Full Professor in Medical Genetics, at the Department of Engineering for Innovation Medicine at the University of Verona, Italy.

Her main research area of interest is Human and Medical Genetics in hematology. Concretely, the identification of genes and mutations causing inherited hematological diseases, such as thrombocytopenias and Fanconi anemia. Moreover, she is focused on the studies on pathogenic mechanisms responsible for these diseases. She is the author of 150 peer-reviewed publications.
