Marie-Christine Alessi, MD, PhD is professor in Hematology at the Aix Marseille University, France. She completed additional post-doctoral training at the Center for Thrombosis and Vascular Research, University of Leuven, Belgium. She has led the inserm/inrae, C2VN research unit focused on haemostasis, thrombosis, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases located at the faculty of medicine at the Aix Marseille University in Marseille, France. MC Alessi has a long-time expertise on the pathophysiological mechanisms of rare inherited thrombocytopenia and platelet dysfunction. Since 2014 she has led the French reference center on inherited platelet disorders which is a medical network throughout France with the aim of improving patient care and reducing diagnostic impasses. To this end, her team developed a molecular diagnostic activity at a national level for platelet disorders based on NGS technology.
